The trip planner

I once wrote a short story called "The Trip Planner", about a woman who actually never went anywhere but spent her days planning trips down to the very smallest detail. In my days away from the blog I wish I could say I'd been sailing down this road, getting lost in the distance and the rocks and the fresh air. Hope though sometimes comes in 4-wheel drive. I may be ready to go, soon.

That sounds like a great story. It's interesting that the picture you chose is of Red Rocks in Nevada. In 1991 I drove out into the desert on one of my spiritual quests and happened to end up there. I camped by myself among the rocks and heroglyphics for a couple of days. At night, beneath a million billion stars, I lay on a picnic table and listened on my transistor radio to news of a major riot in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood of Washington D.C., just a couple of blocks from where I lived at the time. Of course, I hadn't planned on this detail of my trip and it was all a bit surreal.

Aaron, talk about a story! Great images. I wish I were there this very moment.

I mean I wish I were in the desert, not Washington D.C.

Oh, I thought you were wishing you were in Toronto so I could tell you the rest of the story in person! (By the way, I meant "petroglyphs", not "heroglyphics" and the actual place of the name is "Valley of Fire," I believe. Check it out, definitely a destination spot!)
