Mount Hope Cemetery, Pescadero, CA

An old rural cemetery where you can build benches, design gravestones, make art. Some graves are over 100 years old, some as recent as last week. Some are decorated with empty beer bottles, 25 cent coins, jewlery and plastic airplanes. My kind of place.

We just came upon this cemetery today on our way back from Woodside driving towards the ocean. We turned onto Stage Road not really knowing what we would find but this cemetery was the best discovery. As you stated, most of the graves were quite old and the general look of the cemetery is isolated and unkept BUT then you'd come across a Marine killed in 2006 - perhaps in Iraq? Lots of family gatherings in those plots and it peeked my interest in the history of this cemetery. We noted that one family lost many of their relatives in 1902. Flu epidemic perhaps? Absolutely fascinating.
